Liberty apples was developed at Cornell University's fruit-breeding program in 1978. It is a cross between Macoun and Purdue 54-12. It is a tart apple, with a vinous aroma. Liberty is an all purpose apple suitable for fresh eating, pies, sauces, and processing. Liberty has a high level of resistance to the major apple diseases. Grows in USDA zones 4-10. The Liberty apple is self-fertile. Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
