(zones 4-9) famous for producing some of the largest apples in the world.
Available on both Bud 9 and MM111 Rootstock.
The Gloria Mundi is a historic heritage apple variety famous for producing some of the largest apples in the world. First recorded in the United States around 1804 (on a farm in Red Hook or Long Island, New York), though some historical accounts suggest it may have originally been raised in Germany or named the Baltimore Monstrous Pippin. Very tart and dry when eaten fresh, but transforms into a sweet, rich, dark-golden puree or sauce when cooked. It is ideal for pies because a single massive apple can sometimes fill an entire crust. Normally weighs 1 to 1.5 pounds (700g to over 1.5kg), with historical records noting a giant 1860 specimen weighing an amazing 3.5 pounds. This historic variety blooms late in the season. To get fruit, you must plant it near a compatible apple variety that blooms at a similar time. Excellent pollination partners include Golden Delicious, Liberty, Honeycrisp, Gala or Granny Smith. The Gloria Mundi apple tree grows best in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 through 9. Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.

(zones 4-8) Firm, crisp, white flesh with a sweet-tart balance with a subtle pear flavor with hints of honey and vanilla.
