• The Fall Wine apple is an obscure historic variety that originated in upstate New York during the early 1800s. For a large portion of the 20th century, the variety was feared to be entirely extinct. It was miraculously rediscovered in Virginia during the 1950s by heirloom fruit preservationists. Today, it remains highly sought after by specialty cider orchards preserving antique genetics. 🍏 Primary Uses • Cider & Juicing: This is its premier application. It yields a richly flavored, aromatic juice with a complex acid profile that is ideal for artisanal hard cider blending. • Culinary: It holds up moderately well in baking, making it a fair choice for rustic autumn tarts, crumbles, and apple sauces. It is a Mid to Mid-Late season bloomer. Because the Fall Wine apple is self-sterile, it requires cross-pollination from a different apple variety blooming at the same time to successfully set fruit. To ensure a strong harvest, pair it with Mid to Mid-Late season bloomers. Excellent pollination partners include: • Golden Delicious (A universal pollinator with highly viable pollen) • Gala • Jonathan • Granny Smith • Flowering Crabapples Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
