Clay Pot apple is a rare, hyper-localized heirloom variety (originally discovered as a chance seedling along a railroad track in Wisconsin) • Appearance: Medium-to-large, nearly round fruit with deep, cherry-red skin. • Texture & Flavor: Crisp and notably sweet flesh balanced by a very mild tartness. • Growth Habit: The tree features a distinct weeping structure and bears fruit on both spurs and twig tips. Availability & Use • Primary Use: Fresh eating and backyard orchard cultivation. Like the vast majority of heritage apples, Clay Pot typically blossoms in mid-spring (around late April to early May depending on your local climate and zone). It generally falls within the Mid-Season Bloom Group. Recommended Pollination Partners: • Mid-Season Fruiting Varieties: Reliable, widely-available mid-season varieties like Golden Delicious, Gala, Fuji, or Jonathan are excellent universal pollen donors that will reliably overlap with Clay Pot. Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
