A classic dessert apple of France. It was planted in the gardens of Versailles. Its distinctive appearance made it a frequent subject in many Renaissance paintings. Claude Monet included it in his 1879 still life Apples and Grapes. It is an excellent dessert apple, makes exceptional cider and vinegar. Its Vitamin C surpasses an orange. Grows in USDA zones 5-9. Late bloom period. Needs an apple tree that blooms at the same time for pollination.
