The Baldwin is an excellent red apple that originates in Massachusetts around 1784. The Baldwin apple tree was the most popular apple in New England. An extreme winter in 1934 wiped out most of the Baldwin apple orchards. The Baldwin apple makes a good cider foundation, and is great for pies and eating fresh. The apple is sweet and crisp. Grows in USDA zones 4-10. It blooms midseason and is sterile. Consider Grimes Golden, Liberty, or White Pearmain for pollination.
