The Nickajack apple originated in the 1800’s with the Cherokee Indians on Nickajack Creek, Macon County, North Carolina. Nickajack was favored for its large size, dependability and long keeping ability. Nickajack apples are best as dessert and baking. One of the few apple varieties which will often reproduce true from seed. Grows in USDA zone 5-9. Blooms midseason and needs another variety blooming at same time to pollinate.
