The Golden Russet apple is probably a chance seedling from New York around 1840. It is prized for its long keeping potential, its high sugar content, balanced by its sprightly acidity. Strong in aromatic as well. It is perfect for sweet or fermented ciders. It retains its texture and flavor in pies and can be stored up to 5 months. Blooms midseason and needs another variety blooming at same time for pollination. Grows in USDA zones 4-10.Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
