OUR STORY

The Starkey apple is a rare apple variety that was discovered as a chance seedling by Moses Starkey in Vassalboro, Maine in the early 19th century. It is both sweet and tart, with notes of spice and honey. The flesh is firm and juicy, with a creamy texture and flavorful. It can be eaten fresh or used in cooking and baking. Likely seedling of a Ribston Pippin. The apples have long shelf life in northern climates. Grows in USDA zones 4-10. Apple is sterile and requires self fertile apple for pollination. Consider Grimes Golden, Newtown Pippin or White Pearmain as pollinizers.
