The Spencer apple is a rare, sweet, crisp Canadian heritage variety bred from a cross of McIntosh and Golden Delicious. Developed in 1926 by R.C. Palmer at the Summerland Experimental Station in British Columbia, Canada. Firm, crisp, and very juicy. It is sweet with a rich, honey-like taste and a mild balance of acidity. Highly cold-hardy. Grows best in USDA Zones 4 through 8. Needs another variety such as Braeburn or White Pearmain to pollinate. Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
