Almost free of grit cells, the Magness pear is a soft, juicy dessert pear. Introduced by the USDA in the 1960's. The Magness pear is very buttery, exceptionally juicy, pale cream flesh; syrupy sweet, rich and aromatic. Magness pear was created to give good quality pear with fireblight resistance for east and midwest states. The Magness pear tree ripens while hanging on the tree. Sterile pollen so needs a pollinizer. Grows in USDA zones 5-10. Trees are bench grafted 1/4-3/16 inch diameter and 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
