The humble potato’s value to mankind is priceless. It was an insurance against starvation when the wheat crop failed. It was a crop that invading armies could not destroy. It even allowed young people in love to marry earlier than before its introduction to Europe due to it ability to sustain body and soul of a family cheaper than other crops.
